Ask for exact model identification

A used listing should identify the manufacturer, full model number, serial-number location, included accessories and original purchase documentation. Images of the physical device should show the eyepiece, objective, housing, buttons, ports and any mounting hardware. Do not assume similarly named generations share accessories or firmware.

Check the electronic functions

Request a video of a cold startup, menu navigation, display output, recording functions and charging. Ask for a clear demonstration of any claimed visible defects. A few sample screenshots cannot establish battery health, sensor uniformity or all operating modes. Manufacturers may offer repair or calibration services, but cost and support policies vary.

Warranty and return policy

Determine whether any warranty transfers to a second owner. Obtain the return terms in writing, including whether the seller accepts a return for dead pixels, battery issues or unreported screen defects. Products supplied through authorized retailers can have materially different service arrangements from gray-market goods.

Finally, check applicable local restrictions before bringing specialized imaging equipment across borders. Export, import and use rules vary by product and jurisdiction.
